Photoshop and Illustrator.

Photoshop- Band Poster.

Wedge Magnet.

What came first with designing this make believe band poster? Being given a randomly generated band name. Wedge magnet.
Wedge magnet is what I was given and that's what I shall roll with! I originally though it reminded me of 'chic magnet' or 'sex magnet' so I was trying to come up with this over sexualised band that really believes its the most attractive thing going. I found this idea amusing but I didn't really have any interest in that as a band personally, not my cup of tea.
I decided to take a step back and go through my Spotify, I mainly listen to heavier music that isn't necessarily 'chic magnet' material. then it hit me. I was wearing my baby metal band shirt while trying to think of a genre. Japanese heavy metal! Not only am I personally attracted to metal posters and bands, I also find the thought of a Japanese band not caring that wedge magnet being a cool name got lost in translation a little.

Inspiration.

Here is a picture of the band crossfaith, To give you an idea of what kind of band Id like to portray these guys are who I am going to imagine while creating my poster. A Japanese metal core band that sings mostly in English, perfect!

Above are some of the posters from bands I love that stand out to me, some are legitimate merch, others fanart. but regardless all look striking and I would like to aim for a similar feel.
WolfSkullJack:
This artist has been one I have looked up to for years. I have always wanted to study her work and be inspired by it too but as I usually don't work digitally or with linework I haven't had the chance. As I have permission to make m own imagery for this entirely today I have decided to reference this artwork. I would love to try and get some aspect of detail in my drawing similar to how she does in her work.

Making the imagery.

I started by taking a photo of my favourite thumbnail and enlarging it in photoshop. I wanted to make this image look printed from the get go and so I used the select and fill tool to colour everything. I used my wacom tablet to do all of the linework. after lining the wolf I decided to add more detail.

I am so happy with how the linework turned out with his fur. I kept referencing 'WolfSkullJack' s instagram and I am so happy to finally use her work as a reference. I enjoyed doing this even though it took a lot longer then it usually would for me to do detail i'm glad I got to explore it.

Here I played around with the lighting and I am very happy with how it lightens up the fur.

Editing a vintage poster.

I didnt even know where to start with editing so I looked it up on youtube and this was the video I found the most helpful.

I was quite happy with how the test with making the poster look 'vintage' turned out. After adding the overlays and creases I think it brings the image to life as a poster, saying that, doing this test made me realise I wanted to change the image some still. I wanted to play around with the title and possibly add more candles to make the bottom of the page a little more busy.

Final tweaks.

Picture
I wanted to see how the poster would look with the other favourite font, I tried it out and with a couple different colours and ended up preferring my first chosen font.

Picture
I also moved the candles around and added a couple extra to make the bottom of the poster a little more heavy.
(it helped making the linework a little less chunky too)

Illustrator- Pop Culture Pins.

First Things first, to look at some already existing pins.

I first started out looking at spongebobs hat, I decided to copy a clear image and trace it as I found this to be the best way to learn. My very first attempt (to the left) I only used the curved line tool I wasn't too happy with how this turned out so I tried again with using shapes. I find making the basic shapes then editing them after very useful.
As A first attempt I was rather pleased.

While making squid wards house I think I was finally starting to get a grip on illustrator as a whole. I think this was much more successful than the hat, I also found this to be much quicker to make. I think is because i'm starting to understand the programme better.

Picture
Here, as you can see the image looks pretty much like it was copied and pasted straight from the cartoon. I don't want this. I want the pins to look like my own. Although I am pleased that ive managed to get it so close to the original, I feel I need to add personal touch to these designs. I don't want them to look like copies.
Rather than just making imagery that comes to my head I think I am gonna sketch up some more thought out designs.
