For my third and final project of the semester I plan to create three band posters based on the headliners at download festival this year. This project is not the most ambitious as I only have about 10 days to complete it. I wanted to create more work in the time I had while waiting for my paranormal journal print to arrive.
Recent music:
I decided I wanted to base the posters off of song lyrics from each of the band's more recent music.
unfortunately the music video is an 18+ for lost so I had to just put the lyric video.
Bring me the horizon poster:
Lyric: Next time I open up to someone will be my autopsy. A pretty self explanatory lyric and straight forward illustration idea too.
Slipknot poster:
Lyric: Put your hands into the water, let your mouth so sick and dry. The meaning of this lyric is essentially washing away of bad things you've done with the water that you could use to drink from, but it's more important to you to wash away the bad things. So I wanted to try and show this with a woman washing blood away from her hands in the sink.
I feel like the two different causes from the mirror and the sink weren't distinct enough, so I decided to change it to a woman shushing in the mirror so you could tell that it’s definitely the wrong reflection.
Metallica Posters:
Lyric: Full speed or nothin', full speed or nothin'! I feel like this lyric is self-explanatory enough and I was trying to think of how to fit the theme of having a woman dressed in purple on my page and going fast and a motorbike just seemed to fit the picture very well.
Final posters:
I really liked the way that the pink and green was working together, but in the end I decided last minute to change it to blue to fit the original download posters themes better. I really like how this turned out I do think they sit really well as a set too.
Unfortunately, this project was done in just over a week and 1/2 at the end of my journal project, so I didn't get to spend as much time on it as I would have liked to. If I was to go back and tackle this again, I'd have probably took more influence from the music videos rather than just the lyrics, but I'm pretty happy with the outcome considering how little time I had to work on them.
